Hiya! 👋

Welcome to another edition of the digital pharmacist digest! As the new year just starts, I've been thinking a lot about how we can make our work time more effective. One of the ways I believe we can do this is by introducing more joy into our workday. When we're in a state of flow, time seems to fly by and we're able to focus on our tasks with greater intensity. Additionally, it encourages creating a sense of wonder and excitement with our products. With this in mind, I'm keen to explore the idea of incorporating gamification elements into digital health solutions to make them more effective and enjoyable for clinicians, while at the same time promoting safe delivery of healthcare.

Thanks for reading,
Kevin

📖What I'm reading

💊 Patient safety and 🩺💻 Health informatics - Short- and long-term effects of an electronic medication management system on paediatric prescribing errors

This study assessed the medication safety of implementing an electronic medication management (eMM) system in a paediatric cohort. No significant change in overall prescribing error rates in the first 70 days of eMM use, but a 62% increase in potential adverse drug events suggesting immediate risks to safety. One-year post-eMM, errors decline by 36% and high-risk medication errors decrease by 33% compared to pre-eMM. In the short-term, eMM implementation shows no improvement in error rates, and an increase in some errors. A year after eMM error rates significantly decline suggesting long-term benefits. eMM optimisation should focus on reducing dose errors due to their high frequency and capacity to cause harm.

👨‍💻 Product management - Becoming a Product Coach - Silicon Valley Product Group

I’m a big fan of Marty Cagan’s writing and his books on product management. The post has a narrow focus on those who aspire to become product coaches but has some principles that can be applied mentoring and helping others in any domain.

✍ Productivity and 🤖 Artificial intelligence - How to... use ChatGPT to boost your writing

A lot has been written on the potential ChatGPT’s and similar natural language processing algorithms. The article goes through different prompts that can be entered into GPT to foster more tailored responses for writers.

🤖 Artificial intelligence - I asked Chat GPT to build a To-Do app — Have we finally met our replacement?

The answer - no, it’s not going to replace developers. Similar to the application of AI in healthcare, it’s a tool to augment our clinicians, so they provide better care.

🤖 Artificial intelligence - building an app that can quickly and efficiently detect whether an essay is ChatGPT or human written

The way things are done in society are being reviewed with the introduction of Chat GPT and similar tools. There’s especially been a lot of chatter around ‘cheating’ in exams and assignments. A great demo of an app evaluating text to identify if it was written by a human or AI-generated.
