๐Ÿ“– What I'm reading

Early experiences of integrating an artificial intelligence-based diagnostic decision support system into radiology settings: a qualitative study
๐Ÿค– Artificial Intelligence and ๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿ’ป Health Informatics

"Artificial intelligence (AI)-based clinical decision support systems to aid diagnosis are increasingly being developed and implemented but with limited understanding of how such systems integrate with existing clinical work and organizational practices. We explored the early experiences of stakeholders using an AI-based imaging software tool Veye Lung Nodules (VLN) aiding the detection, classification, and measurement of pulmonary nodules in computed tomography scans of the chest."

Five strategies for a Safer EHR Modernization Journey
๐Ÿ’Š๐Ÿ“ˆ Patient Safety and ๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿ’ป Health Informatics

"Safely transitioning to any new electronic health record (EHR) is difficult. Large-scale EHR transitions require more time, money, and effort and pose even greater risks to patient safety. In this paper, we recommend 5 actionable strategies..."

1. Implement Shared Responsibility Principles for Safer EHR Transitions
2. Reinvigorate, Empower, and Support Staff
3. Standardize EHR Functionality and Workflows Whenever Possible
4. Optimize EHR Reliability, Response Time, and Design
5. Centralize EHR Safety Assessment, Measurement, and Monitoring

The Most Advanced Yet Acceptable Products Win: How to strike the right balance between the novel and the familiar in design
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ’ป Product management

In the early 20th century, to guide the creation of his groundbreaking works, Loewy developed a rule he called MAYA: the most advanced yet acceptable design.

MAYA dictates that the ideal design sits between solutions that are completely novel and entirely familiar. Be too novel and customers will tune you out. Be too familiar and customers will look right past you. Or, in Loewyโ€™s words, โ€œThe adult publicโ€™s taste is not necessarily ready to accept the logical solutions to their requirements if the solution implies too vast a departure from what they have been conditioned into accepting as the norm.โ€

MAYA is the sweet spot: novel but familiar, advanced yet acceptable. And it can make or break the success of innovations.
